Frequently Asked Questions

New Star Solar uses the best from Suniva, LG, and Canadian Solar – who create one of the best solar panels that will blend well into any home.

Suniva’s Optimus modules are known for their superior quality and long-term reliability. These high-powered modules consist of Suniva’s premium ARTisun Select cell technology and are designed and manufactured in the U.S.A. using our pioneering ion implantation technology.

LG’s quality-assurance is a top priority, with their solar panels using the most technologically advanced processes available. Thier state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities are designed to produce high quality, high-performance cell panels that come ready to perform.

Canadian Solar’s new Dymond panel, also known as the double-glass module, is an innovative panel that uses heat-strengthened glass instead of the traditional polymer backsheet, and it has no metal frame so it requires no grounding. This eliminates the cause of Potential Induced Degradation (PID) and the panel can withstand high humidity, high temperatures, sandstorms, ultraviolet and corrosion

No. Solar panels have the technology to work in any type of weather – including cloudy days and storms. They won’t produce 100% of it’s capability, but they will continue to gather as much sunlight as possible. The only occurrence solar panels will not produce energy is if they’re completely covered by snow, but snow slides off right away after a storm.

Yes. Like anything placed outside, solar panels will degrade and will be worn down over a period of time. This is due to the Sun’s UV rays degrading the panel’s crystalline silicon, but this degrading process only happens at an average .1% a year. All panels are now covered with a maximum .8% degradation and 25-year warranty if a certain panel is degrading at a faster rate.

All solar panels we install are tied to the power grid, and excess energy that is produced by a solar panel will feed into the power utility’s grid. This process is called net metering, and utility companies will actually provide credit to homeowners who produce excess power.

No. Typically, all installations of solar panels are property-tax exempt – meaning a home’s resale value is increased without any extra taxes being added.

Definitely yes. Using solar power as a main source of energy for a home will make significant cuts to a monthly electricity bill. Studies have shown that solar panels will return two to four times their installation costs in electric bills. Investing in solar panels also have no major up-front costs with great financing options available.

No. All solar panels we install will be connected to secure rafters and racks that are attached to a home, not directly on the roof. Solar panels will actually help the structure and integrity of a roof by protecting its components from the elements.

Since all solar panels we install are connected to the grid, they will stop producing electricity if there is a power outage. This measure is to prevent any safety hazards from occurring when workers are repairing the issues that caused the outage. The most logical solution is to have a generator on-hand in case of such emergencies.
